Epoxy vs. Polyaspartic: What’s Best for Your Garage Floor?

If you’re tired of looking at a cracked, dusty garage floor—or worse, tracking that dust into your house—it might be time to upgrade. At Gorilla Tuff Coatings, we install floors that actually hold up in real-world conditions, not just the showroom. So let’s talk about the two most common systems: epoxy and polyaspartic.
The Quick Breakdown
Here’s the truth most contractors won’t tell you: it’s not about choosing epoxy or polyaspartic. The best systems often use both—when done right.
Some companies push 1-day systems using only polyaspartic because it's fast. But fast doesn’t mean durable, especially here in the Hudson Valley with all the moisture, snow, and salt. We’ve seen too many of those floors fail in a few years—or less.
That’s why we don’t offer 1-day floors. We take an extra day or two and do it the right way.
Here’s What We Do Instead
At Gorilla Tuff Coatings, we use a high-performance, multi-layer system that’s built to last:
Moisture Barrier Primer – Most garages have hidden moisture in the slab. We use a moisture-mitigating primer to prevent peeling, bubbling, or delamination.
Industrial-Grade Epoxy Base Coat – Bonds deep into the concrete and sets the foundation.
Full Broadcast of Decorative Flakes – Adds traction, style, and thickness.
Polyaspartic Top Coat – This is the UV-stable, chemical-resistant armor that locks everything in and keeps your floor looking great for years.
Why Not Just Use Polyaspartic for Everything?
Some companies will try to save time and cost by doing a full polyaspartic floor in one day. The problem is, polyaspartic doesn’t bond to concrete as deeply as epoxy does, especially in colder or more humid conditions like we have here in NY.
We’ve repaired enough failing 1-day floors to know: they don’t hold up over time—not the way our system does.
So, Which Is Better?
It’s not about picking sides—it’s about using both where they work best. Epoxy anchors the system to the concrete. Polyaspartic protects the surface from wear, sun, chemicals, and salt. You get the strength of both with none of the shortcuts.

Bottom Line
If you want a garage floor that:
Won’t peel or chip in 6 months
Can handle salt, snow, oil, and hot tires
Looks like a showroom and feels like a tank
...you want a Gorilla Tuff Coating. No gimmicks, no cut corners—just a tough, beautiful floor done right.
