Thinking about upgrading your garage floor? Smart move. But before you jump in, there are some important things most homeowners never hear until it’s too late.
At Gorilla Tuff Coatings, we’re all about helping you make the right call the first time — no BS, no regrets.
Here are the top 5 things to know before you coat your garage floor:
1️⃣ Prep is Everything
If the concrete isn’t properly prepped, the coating won’t last. Period.
We’re talking diamond grinding — not acid etching, not a quick sweep. You need the pores of the concrete open so the coating can soak in and bond like it’s supposed to. Otherwise? Peeling, flaking, and bubbling are almost guaranteed.
2️⃣ Moisture Can Wreck Your Floor
Garage slabs in New York and New Jersey are notorious for moisture. If your contractor skips the moisture barrier, that water vapor will push up and destroy your coating from underneath.
That’s why we always apply a high-end vapor barrier — no exceptions.
3️⃣ All Coatings Are Not the Same
A lot of companies throw around terms like “epoxy,” “polyurea,” or “polyaspartic,” but don’t explain the difference.
Here’s the deal:
Epoxy is great for the base — strong, thick, and durable.
Polyaspartic is best for the top — fast curing, UV-stable, and super tough.
Polyurea 1-day systems? Fast, yes. But often not made for long-term durability in our region.
We use both epoxy and polyaspartic in our system to get the best of both worlds — strength, flexibility, and longevity.
4️⃣ Broadcasting Flakes Isn’t Optional
Some guys just toss a few flakes down. Not us.
We do a full broadcast flake system — that means every inch of your floor gets consistent coverage for added durability, texture, and that clean, high-end finish.
It’s not just about looks — it adds grip, hides imperfections, and makes your floor easier to clean.
5️⃣ The Right System Costs More — and It Should
Let’s be real: you get what you pay for. Cheap coatings don’t last. We get calls every week from homeowners whose floors are peeling after just 1 or 2 years.
We’re not the cheapest — because we’re not in the business of doing things twice.
Our goal is simple: one floor, done right, built to last.

Final Thought
Coating your garage floor is one of the smartest upgrades you can make — but only if it’s done right.
Want it to look amazing and stay strong for years? We’ve got you.
